(NewsDakota.com)- Last night at the Civic Center both Jamestown College basketball teams clinched at least a share of the final DAC regular season championship.
The women won the title out-right improving their record against the DAC schools to 5-0 and 25-3 overall following a 74-51 win over Mayville St. The Jimmies never trailed in the game.
Jamestown got some timely shooting by the likes of Carly Jensen and Hannah Steele that put the game out of reach. In the first half, Jensen hit a pair of threes on back-to-back possessions after Maggie Seter hit one of her own. Those nine quick points doubled up the Comets, 26-13.
In the second half, with just over eight minutes to play Steele knocked down consecutive triples to push the lead to 20 and ending Mayville St. hope for a comeback.
Juniors Amber Ramlo and Bridget Schuneman lead the way for the Jimmies. Ramlo finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, continually getting behind the Comet zone for easy baskets.
Schuneman had yet another double-double with 14 and 11.
The men clinched a share of the DAC title following their win over Mayville St. 72-55 and Valley City St.’s loss at home to Dickinson St. 74-65.
Jamestown can clinch the title outright with a win Saturday at Dickinson.
Jared Sutherland picked up right where he left a week ago against Valley City St., with eight first-half points to erase an early lead by the Comets.
Sutherland and Mark Hoge jump-started the Jimmies on a 23-8 run following a Mayville St. lead of 19-14. The Comets would close the first-half with five in-a-row to make it a 37-32 score at half.
Bryon Jones was the catalyst down the stretch for Jamestown creating scoring opportunities by taking the ball to rim and hitting all eight of his free throw attempts. He finished with a game-high 20.
The Jimmies improve their record to 23-5 with this win.
Up next Jamestown College will travel to Dickinson St. on Saturday for a 5pm CT tip-off (4pm Mountain time) for the women, the men will follow. You can hear all the action on KXGT Sunny 98.3.
