(NewsDakota.com) – A jury found Jamestown resident Janelle Cave guilty of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy Thursday in relation to the death of 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed, whose body was found in a ditch near Spiritwood on April 30, 2011.

Ahmed had been stabbed and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

The 22-year-old Cave was charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in Stutsman County District Court. She was found not guilty on the count of murder, but was found guilty on a lesser count of manslaughter. Judge Thomas Merrick said a sentencing hearing will happen in 6 to 8 weeks after a presentence investigation, which looks at the past history of the defendant.

Manslaughter is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Criminal conspiracy is a Class AA felony punishable by up to life in prison without parole.

The jury delivered the verdict just after 2:15 p.m. Thursday, ending a 9-day proceeding that started with jury selection on Feb. 6.

Also charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of Ahmed is 34-year-old Leron Howard, who is scheduled to go on trial in August.
