(NewsDakota.com) – A National Weather Service spring flood outlook released Thursday morning provides favorable outlooks for the Jamestown and Valley City areas due to a mild winter.
The report says about the only risk of flooding along the Missouri and James rivers would be through heavy spring rains for ice jams.
On the James River at LaMoure, there is just a 2 percent chance the river will reach 14 feet, which is minor flood stage. On the Pipestem Creek near Pingree, there is a 7 percent chance of minor flooding and 6 percent chance of moderate flooding.
The report says the Sheyenne River in Valley City has just a 6 percent chance of minor flooding and only a 3 percent chance of major flooding. Minor flood stage is 15 feet and major flood stage is 17 feet in Valley City. There is just a 20 percent chance that the river will reach 10.6 feet in Valley City.
The report also says there is a 6 percent chance Fargo could experience major flooding, and there’s only a slim chance that Devils Lake will reach a record level this summer.
