(NewsDakota.com) – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul made a brief stop in Jamestown on Monday afternoon, speaking to supporters at the District 12 Republican Convention.

Paul arrived at the Knights of Columbus hall shortly after 1 p.m., and shook hands for about 15 minutes with some members of the crowd. He listened to brief campaign speeches by four Republican’s running for North Dakota’s U.S. House seat, and then took the stage for about a 10-minute campaign speech of his own.

His stop at the convention lasted about 40 minutes. About 400 to 500 people showed up to listen to Paul’s speech, packing the Knights of Columbus to standing room only and cheering loudly during his speech.

Paul, known as a constitutionalist, is running fourth in national polls behind Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in the race to become the Republican party’s presidential nominee for November. He has had what experts are calling strong showings in some of the early Republican primaries and caucuses.
