(NewsDakota.com) – Two roads in downtown Jamestown will remain closed until further notice following a Friday fire at 305 First Avenue North, according to a release from the City Engineer’s office.
Southbound traffic on 1st Avenue North from 4th Street to Third Street Northwest is still being detoured, but northbound traffic is now allowed on 1st Avenue North. Also, 3rd Street Northwest between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue Northwest remains closed.
The fire on Friday destroyed a storage building owned by Vining Oil Company. It also spread briefly to the old Elks Building before being contained. Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther said Tuesday morning the cause of the fire remains under investigation. An investigator is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon, and Reuther said they should start processing the scene shortly after.
“Sometime this afternoon we’ll go in and do some processing of the scene,” he said Tuesday, adding they have done some preliminary photos.
Reuther said the fire department is no longer on fire watch after taking care of three or four flare-ups at the site over the weekend, the last coming on Sunday. He said there’s no doubt that the Vining Oil building is a total loss.
The scene was turned over to the owners and insurance company on Monday night, and the insurance company is erecting a fence around the property.
