(NewsDakota.com) – Jared Meiklejohn scored 19 points, including the first seven in overtime, as he led the undefeated LaMoure Loboes past South Border 55-45 in the opening round of the Region 3 boys basketball tournament Monday at the Jamestown Civic Center.

LaMoure entered the tournament as the top seed from District 5 and the No. 3 ranked team in the state, but South Border gave the Loboes all they could handle, rallying from a 42-37 deficit in the final minutes to force overtime.

But Meiklejohn scored five points in the first 20 seconds of overtime, giving LaMoure a lead they would never relinquish in the extra frame.

LaMoure advances to the semifinals Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

LaMoure’s opponent in the first semifinal will be the Linton-HMB Lions who picked up a 70-47 win over the PBK Rebels.

PBK had a 30-25 lead with :30 second remaining in the opening half, but once the Lions scored twice to close the gap it one, it was all Linton.

They used a 17-4 that sandwiched halftime to take control of the contest and they never looked back.

Napoleon punched their ticket to the semis with a  10-point win over Central Prairie, 64-54. Central Prairie’s Eric Knodel did everything he could to will his team to victory, but his game-high 34 points weren’t enough to slow down Napoleon’s combo of Wade Rath-Wald and some timely three-point shooting.

Edgeley-Kulm took the final spot in the semifinals with their 49-37 win over Strasburg-Zeeland. A balanced scoring attack of Nathan Elhard (14), Beau Diegel (14), and Logan Hanson (10) lead the Rebels to the next round.

LaMoure vs. Linton-HMB will tip it off today beginning at 6pm. Followed by Edgeley-Kulm and Napoleon. All the top-seeds advanced on Day 1.

All games in the Region 3 Tournament are being broadcast on Sunny 98.3.
