(NewsDakota.com) – A burn ban remains in place in Stutsman County following the Stutsman County Commission meeting Tuesday night.

Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist told the county commission that a poll of the county’s fire chiefs revealed that all but one wished the burn ban remain in place. It bans open burning in the county on days when the Fire Danger Index is in the “very high” or “extreme” index, or a red flag warning is in place.

A total of 28 North Dakota counties currently have burn bans in place said Bergquist. Stutsman County’s ban will remain in place indefinitely, until it is lifted by the commission.

Burn bans are also in effect in the neighboring counties of Foster, Wells, Kidder, Logan, LaMoure, McIntosh and Dickey.
