CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner golf team started their season with a solid performance at a full Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) meet at Kings Walk in Grand Forks yesterday.

Valley City finished fifth with a team 320, four shots behind fourth-place Wahpeton and six behind third-place Grand Forks Red River.  The Hi-Liners edged Fargo South by one shot, Fargo Davies by five, and Grand Forks Central by seven.

With six teams qualifying for the state meet, the first meet would indicate it will be a very tight race for a state tournament berth in the EDC.

Ben Sorenson fired a 75 to lead Valley City, finishing tied for sixth place.  He is planning on playing for Valley City State next season.

Nick Jensen finished with a 76, running into some issues on the back nine after a 36 on the front.  He was tied for eighth.

Jared Lentz carded an 84, and Tyler Stevens shot an 85, finishing the team scoring for the Hi-Liners.  Marcus Beedle shot an 86, and Michael Peterson finished with a 90.

West Fargo won the meet with a 301, eight shots ahead of Fargo Shanley.  Fargo South’s Landon Poss was the medalist, finishing with a 71.  Grand Forks Central’s Ty Kennedy was second with a 72, and Shanley’s Grady Meyer was third with a 73.

The next action for the Hi-Liners will be April 24th at Village Green in Moorhead.
