Susan McCann Maley, 88, of Oakes, ND, formerly of Verona, ND, entered her eternal home April 24, 2012, surrounded by her family.

Emma was born on August 24, 1923 to James and Mary (Weber) McCann. She attended Cleveland Elementary School and graduated from Verona High School. Emma continued her education at Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She worked at both the Ransom and LaMoure County courthouses.

Emma married Donald Maley on October 2, 1943. Don and Emma began farming in the Verona area, where they participated in community organizations and raised their family. They were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Verona. Donald died on May 31, 1976. Emma resided in Verona until 2008, when she moved to Oakes. She entered the Good Samaritan Society in 2011, and resided there until her death.

Left to mourn are Don and Emma’s children, Susan Schiffner, LaMoure, ND, Martin “Buddy” (Bonnie) Maley, Oakes, ND, Joyce (Joel) Laney, Verona, ND, Janice (Randy) Raatz, Oakes, and Kathy (Terry) Thompson, Lisbon; her sister, Rosemary (Gary) Rehovsky, Alexandria, MN; 16 grandchidren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Emma in death are her husband Donald, her parents, her beloved son-in-law, John Schiffner, and siblings, Agnes Morgan, Veronica Maley, Berniece Maley, James McCann, and Bernard McCann.

Emma’s funeral will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, Oakes. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND.
