CITY (NewsDakota.com) Two Valley City police officers have made the final five candidates seeking the position of Police Chief in Valley City.

Acting Police Chief Mark McDonald has serve 27 years and Valley City Police Sgt. Doug Kiefert is a former Police Chief of Kindred with 30 years of experience.

City Administrator David Schelkoph says the city has taken it’s time in the selection and interview process looking for the best candidate.

Schelkoph says Patricia Nowak (No-VAK) is a Sergeant with 30 years experience in Haslett Michigan, Ryan Evans is a former Police Chief of Monticello Iowa with 18 years of police work and Fred Thompson is a Captain in Henderson, Nevada with 29 years experience.

He says the final interviews will take place May 8 with McDonald and Kiefert. The others will be interviewed May 14 & 15. Schelkoph says a decision will be made shortly after the final interview.

Former Police Chief Dean Ross retired after 38 years with the department and 11 years as its chief following a dispute with the Mayor and City Administrator last year.
