CITY (NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liner track and field teams nabbed two more spots at the state meet during a meet hosted by Fargo Shanley at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN Friday.
The Hi-Liner girls scored 39 points, seventh overall at the full Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) event. The boys scored 6.5 points.
Jenna Jacob and Jenna Coghlan highlighted the day for the Hi-Liner girls. Jacob qualified for state in the 200-meter dash (26.84), and placed third in the 100-meter dash (13.22). Coghlan was a champion in the javelin throw, with a state-qualifying toss of 114 feet, six inches.
Allyson Shur was sixth in the 1600-meter run (5:35.48), and April Berntson was eighth (5:39.75). Berntson was also fifth in the 800-meter run (2:39.06) and seventh in the high jump (4-09), while Suhr added an eighth in the 3200-meter run (12:21.29).
Abby Brown was sixth in the triple jump (32-03.50, and seventh in the long jump (14-08.5). Valley City was seventh in the 400-meter relay (57.39).
On the boys side, Paul Viland was third in the pole vault (12-6), and Casey Engelhard placed eighth in the high jump (5-4).
The Hi-Liners host the Bill Jansen Invitational Tuesday at Shelly Ellig Field at Valley City State University.
