M. (Formo) Stahl was born on May 8, 1909 in Granite Falls, MN, the daughter of John and Betsy (Anderson) Formo.  As a young girl, she moved with her family to Rosebud Township in North Dakota.  She graduated from Litchville High School in 1928 and went on to achieve her teaching certificate from Valley City State University.         

She taught in Flasher, ND and then at Skandia Township School.         

On September 29, 1936, she married Oscar Stahl in Litchville.  They farmed north of Litchville.  She retired in 1972.  In 1980, they moved to Valley City.  He died November 18, 1981.  Laura continued to make her home in Valley City until moving to Grand Forks, ND in November of 2005.  She lived in Parkwood Place for 3 years then moved to Valley Eldercare.          

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Litchville.  She was active in Women’s Church Circle and enjoyed growing flowers.          

Laura died May 2, 2012 in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 102, six days before her 103rd birthday.  She is survived by her son, Curtis (Kathy) Stahl of Bismarck; daughter, Loretta (Ken) Svedjan of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Dr. Hayley (Dr. Joel Walz) Svedjan Walz and their daughters, Josie Svedjan Walz and Jillian Laura Walz of Grand Forks, Kristi Stahl of Alexandria, VA, and Andrew Stahl of Bismarck; and several nieces and nephews.         

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar Stahl; sisters, Georgine Formo and Ida Swensen; and brothers, Axel and Bennie Formo.

           

The funeral service for Laura will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, Litchville.  Burial will be in the Sheyenne Valley Cemetery.          

Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
