(NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota native Peggy Lee will be honored with a pair of events Memorial Day weekend in Wimbledon and Jamestown.
Saturday, May 26, would be Lee’s 92nd birthday, and is the grand opening in Wimbledon of the renovated Midland Continental Depot Transportation Museum, where Lee’s father worked and she lived in the 1930s. The recently renovated depot will now feature railroad history and Peggy Lee history, says Peggy Lee enthusiast Kate Stevenson of Jamestown.
On Friday, May 25, the Reiland Fine Arts Center in Jamestown will play host to the concert ‘A Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee,’ which Stevenson has helped organize.
Peggy Lee was born Norma Deloris Egstrom in Jamestown, and lived in the area until her singing career took off. Lee got her professional singing start on KOVC Radio in Valley City, and went on to become a nationally known singer and actress.
Tickets for the Friday night concert are available in Jamestown at Globe Travel, Hugo’s Family Marketplace and Cork and Barrel. In Valley City, tickets are available at the Barnes County Museum and Unique Antiques. The museum grand opening is free and open to the public.
