(NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation board voted Monday to partially fund a feasibility study for a potential iron smelting plant that would be located at the Spiritwood Energy Park.
The plant would convert iron ore to iron pellets, using biomass materials and either natural gas or waste steam from Spiritwood Station.
If the feasibility study comes back favorable, a pilot-scale plant could be built starting in 2013 or 2014. The JSDC would pay $25,000 for their part of the feasibility study. Carbontec Energy Corporation of Bismarck will also pay $25,000 for the study, and about $100,000 is being requested through a grant program with the North Dakota Ag Products Utilization Committee.
