E. Sorensen, age 84, of Valley City, ND, formerly of Silver Springs, NV, died Sunday, May 13th at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Merret Eldred Sorensen, the son of Anton and Mary (Johnson) Sorensen, was born July 16, 1937 in Arco, MN. The family moved to Nome, ND and then south of Kathryn, ND and in 1937, they moved to Valley City, ND. Merret attended school in Valley City and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Valley City. Merret married Ellen McDonald in Valley City. On November 11, 1945, Merret enlisted with the US Army Air Corp and served his country during World War II. After his discharge in 1948, he returned to Valley City where he ran a plumbing business until moving to Silver Springs, Nevada where he also owned and operated a plumbing business until his retirement. Merret moved back to Valley City in July, 2011. Merret enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading a good western novel or watching a good western movie. Merret was known to always help people that were in need and always had a fast comeback for everything.

Merret is survived by his children, Dan Sorensen, Jasper, TX, Darcy (Iris) Sorensen, Wellington, NV and Randy (Sandy) Sorensen, Sparks, NV; four grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darwin Sorensen and Gary (Evie) Sorensen, one sister, LaVetta (John) Anderson; one sister-in-law, Clara Sorensen, all Valley City, ND; many nieces and nephews.

Merret was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lyle and Mylo and one sister, Vivian Welken.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 22nd at Memory Gardens near Valley City.
