(NewsDakota.com) – A sideswipe collision between a car and a semi on Friday afternoon south of Jamestown sent a 78-year-old Gackle woman to the hospital with extensive bruising.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says 78-year-old Helen Elhard’s northbound car drifted into the opposite lane on Highway 281 and partially collided with a southbound semi hauling hay bales. The type of collision was classified by the NDHP as a sideswipe meeting.

Elhard was transferred by Jamestown Ambulance to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, where she remained as of Friday evening with extensive bruising. Her vehicle had extensive damage to the driver’s side and slid into the west ditch before coming to rest in a field.

The driver of the semi, 49-year-old Roger Burgers of Colton, S.D., did not sustain any injuries.

The Highway Patrol says Elhard’s 1997 Buick LeSabre was totaled, receiving about $7,500 worth of damage. The 2006 Peterbilt semi tractor and trailer received about $15,000 worth of damage, with damage to its left drive axle tires and wheels.

The accident happened about 11 miles south of Jamestown at about 12:15 p.m.
