memorial service for Harold “Happy” A. Jahnig, Jr. 72, of Britton will be 10:30 am, Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Britton Cemetery with military rites by Britton American Legion Post #80.  The Rev. Deb Grismer will officiate.    

Refreshments and fellowship will follow at the Nutrition Center, 909 S. Main St. in Britton.

Harold died January 23, 2012 at ManorCare Health Systems in Aberdeen.

Harold A, son of Harold and Gladys (Bauman) Jahnig, Sr. was born May 21, 1939 at Britton, SD.  This is where he grew up, graduating from Britton High School.  He entered the United States Army serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Britton and worked for Ray Jarrett as a farmhand for many years.

He was united in marriage to Ann Burger at Webster, SD in 1966.  In 1967 they moved to Aberdeen where he worked for Kyburz Construction.  In 1970 they moved to Langford where he worked as a farmhand and in 1972 they moved back to Britton where he worked for Jarrett’s and later Dalton Dockter as a farmhand.  He then began employment with Horton Industries as a machinist working there for over 20 years.  A few years ago he had to retire due to failing health.  He was in the nursing home for less than 100 days before his death.

Harold is survived by two brothers, Marvin (Agnes) Jahnig of Washburn, ND and Gordon Jahnig of Aberdeen, three sisters, Rita Moore of Johnstown, CO and Judy Jahnig and Sheryl (John) Ruckman, both of Aberdeen, one grandchild, Tina Petersen and one great-grandson.

His parents, two sons, Frederick and Eugene, two sisters, Renee and Bonnie and two brothers, Bernie and Larry preceded him in death.
