City (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City School district will take an extra step to protect children when the school year resumes this fall.

Superintendent Dean Koppelman says if a student is absent and the school district doesn’t get a call by 9:30am. The school will contact the parent to see if the child is o.k.

School board member Mike Callahan says he sometimes sees young student standing or walking alone and it worries him.
