City Babe Ruth traveled to Lisbon Monday afternoon and came back with a sweep of the two games played, winning game one 20-4 (5 innings) and game two 15-1 (4).

Valley City jumped out with seven runs in top of first inning and that is all that starter Jesse Johnson needed for the win in game one.  Johnson worked all five innings, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, while scartering four hits, walking five and stiking out eight.

Offensively, Valley City collected 18 hits in the contest where 10 of the 12 that played collected a hit, including every starter of the game.  Nate Rodriguez had another huge day at the plate going 2-3 with a homerun, while collecting two RBI and scoring four runs. Dalton Ondracek went 3-4 while Ben Baasch, Johnson, Collin Schroeder and Alex Milender all had multi hit games.

“Jesse did a great job for us on the mound.  Giving him a seven-run lead before getting on the mound is always nice and he attacked Lisbon hitters with that lead.  He ran into one little hiccup in 4th inning where he lost some control, but beared down and worked through it,” said head coach Lance Lukes.

“To come out and put up another high hit game as a team was great to see.  Dalton, our little spark plug, got us started with a double from that lead off spot and the Nate blasted one to the deepest part of the park to collect his in-the-park homerun,” Lukes added.

In game two, Valley City once again jumped out early, getting a run in the top of the first, then four more in the top of the second.  Jonah Wolla got the start on the mound and picked up the win, going all four innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, while walking one and striking out three.

On offense, Valley City picked up another 16 hits in this game. Rodriguez and Ondracek each picked up three hits in the game. Josh Tulp chipped in going 2-3 with two RBI.

“For his first time throwing this season Jonah threw the ball very well.  Three of the four innings, he turned Lisbon down 1-2-3 which helped him but also helped with our offense,” Lukes said.

Lukes added, “The guys came up this game and didnt let up from game one.  That is always something as a coach you worry about after a big game is a let down in the next game.”

With the sweep, Valley City’s record now sits and 4-2 with a 2-2 league record.  Their next action is Tuesday, when they host Edgeley at 5:30 in one league game.
