FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of firing a hunting rifle at his apartment roommate in Grand Forks has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. Defense attorney Blake Hankey says 26-year-old Travis Samshal had been threatened by the roommate and was defending himself when he fired a 7 mm rifle in the direction of 34-year-old Leon Franco last Dec. 14. Hankey says Samshal deliberating missed. Samshal’s trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 16. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
