CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team swept Ellendale 27-5 and 18-8 in a pair of games in Ellendale yesterday.
Valley City used a 14-run fourth inning to bust the first game open, a game that was tied 4-4 after an inning. Jordan Magnuson had to be relieved early after walking six batters, and Jacob Miller threw five innings for the win, allowing just a run and a hit over the full five innings.
Head coach Lance Lukes complimented Miller on his relief effort. “Jordan had a rough time today, and you will get days like that with kids this age. Jacob came into a tough spot and got us out of it, and then pitched well through the rest of the game.”
On the offensive side, Valley City racked up 25 hits. Magnuson went 5-6, driving in five runs. Miller Ben Baasch, Nate Rodriguez, Jesse Johnson, and Lucas Jury all had three hits.
“It was good to see Jordan not take his bad pitching performance with him to the plate. He came through with some clutch hits for us when th game was close,” said Lukes of Magnuson’s day at the plate.
Ellendale again challenged Valley City in game two, scoring eight runs in the third to take a three-run lead. But Valley City responded with three in the fifth and 10 in the sixth for the win. Alex Milender stared, was relieved by Rodriguez, and the game was finished by Johnson, who earned the win with a perfect sixth inning.
