CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–Steele put the brakes on a solid run by the Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team last night, taking a 10-6 and 7-6 decision in Steele.

Valley City fell behind in the first game 10-1 before attempting a comeback with five runs in the sixth.  They would get no further in the league game, dropping the four-run loss.

Casey Engelhard was 3-3 in the matchup.  Ben Baasch and Jesse Johnson each had two hits.  Johnson had a rough start on the hill, allowing six walks over 2.2 innings in the loss.

“Jesse ran into some control problems today, and when he did throw strikes, they were up in the zone, and Steele was hitting,” said head coach Lance Lukes.

Lukes added, “It was probably our lowest error total for a game, and we collected as many hits as Steele.  It shows you need all aspects of your game to be on point to win games with teams you’re closely matched with.”

Valley City committed five errors in the nightcap and watched an early 2-0 lead give way to a one-run defeat.  Starter Dalton Ondracek allowed seven runs, with only three earned, in the tough-luck loss.

Valley City is now 10-9 overall, 6-4 in league play.  They host Jamestown in non-league action at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.
