(NewsDakota.com) – Dan Buchanan and Steve Brubakken were sworn in as new Jamestown City Council members during a special organizational meeting of the new City Council on Tuesday.
Buchanan and Brubakken were elected in June to fill the seats of Ken Schulz and Pat Nygaard, who both chose not to run for re-election. Longtime councilman Charlie Kourajian was also sworn into office Tuesday after being re-elected in June.
Buchanan, a longtime lawyer, spoke of doing a better job of planning and zoning within the city.
Brubakken spoke of giving everyone a voice on the City Council.
Brubakken, Kourajian and Buchanan are all starting four-year terms on the council.
Also Tuesday, council member Ramone Gumke was elected President of the Council and Brubakken was elected vice-president.
Mayor Katie Andersen appointed Gumke to head the Finance and Legal Committee and Personnel Comittee. Buchanan will head the Building, Planning and Zoning Committee. Kourajian is in charge of the Civic Center and Promotion Committee. Andersen will lead the Police and Fire Committee, and Brubakken will head up the Public Works Committee.

The first regular meeting of the new City Council is July 2.
Ken Dalsted was appointed to serve another two years as City Attorney and Assistant City Prosecutor. Leo Ryan was appointed to serve two more years as City Prosecutor and Assistant City Attorney. And Kara Helgeson was appointed to serve two years as Assistant City Prosecutor and Assistant City Attorney.
