(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team had a chance to gain some ground on their sectional competition as they hosted two Section 2 games against Wishek Post 87 on Tuesday night at Cummings Field. Oakes was able to pick up a game and came out with a split by scores of a 6-2 loss and a 3-1 win.
The first game saw Wishek push two runs across the plate in the first game, due to a missed tag at home plate by Oakes pitcher Chris Tyre. Oakes scored a run each in the third and sixth innings to tie the game; but it unraveled in a hurry in the seventh, as Post 87 scored four runs on three lead-off hits and an Oakes error with nobody out to take the game.
Tyre took the loss for Post 36 going all seven innings giving up five earned runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.
In the second game, Keaton Peterson earned the win on the mound, going all seven innings.
With the split, Oakes now stands at 2-5. They have Wednesday off and will next suit up on Thursday evening when they host Ellendale Post 137 at 7:30 p.m. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com starts at 7:15.
