CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team dropped a pair of tight games with Jamestown Wednesday night, losing 6-5 in game one and 6-3 in game two.
Valley City took a 1-0 lead into the fourth of the first game, but Jamestown scored their six runs over the next two frames, taking advantage of free passes and Valley City errors. Jordan Magnuson threw five innings for Valley City, and allowed only two hits, but walked seven men to allow six runs, only three of which were earned.
Jamestown was outhit by Valley City 8-2 in the contest. Ben Baasch was 3-4, and Nate Rodriguez was 2-4 with three RBI.
“This was another game that we played well in, and with a couple of things going differently, we come out on the other end,” said head coach Lance Lukes.
Jacob Miller allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits in his start in game two. Valley City managed just three hits in the game, however, and dropped the three-run loss.
“Overall, I’m pleased with how things went today. I can just hope that the players are able to learn from this, and learn what we could have done differently to change each game to pick up two wins,” said Lukes.
Valley City is now 10-11 overall, 6-4 in league play. They host Lisbon in league play on Monday.
