(NewsDakota.com) – Court records show that a man involved in a deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 94 west of Jamestown had a history of alcohol and drug offenses in Minnesota.
28-year-old Wyatt Klein, of Jamestown, was one of four people killed when his pickup collided head-on with a West Fargo family’s car Friday night. Authorities say Klein was heading east in the westbound lanes.
The Highway Patrol was alcohol was a factor in the crash. Sergeant Tom Herzig says troopers smelled alcohol on Klein and in his vehicle.
Minnesota court records show Klein pleaded guilty to DWI last year after operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Pope County, Minn. in February, 2011. He served 90 days in the Pope County Jail on the misdemeanor conviction.
Klein’s record includes at least three convictions related to underage drinking and driving, five violations for driving with a suspended license and one for having marijuana in a vehicle as a driver.
Friday evening’s crash about 33 miles west of Jamestown killed 34-year-old Aaron Deutscher, his 36-year-old wife Allison and their 18-month-old daughter Brielle. Allison was also three-and-a-half months pregnant.
