Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson said authorities made contact with Amber Glatt in the “Grand Canyon National Park” Tuesday.

The disappearance of the 22-year-old prompted aerial searches in Barnes County over the weekend. Her mother Amy Rines, says her daughter has recurring amnesia since suffering a head injury two years ago.

During a news conference Chief Thompson was asked whether police should have released a missing persons report to the media earlier. Thompson said cases like this are touchy concerning the legal procedure when a missing adult has private medical issues, referring to Glatt’s amnesia.

Another question was concerning a letter found in the Glatt case. Thompson said at this time we believe the letter was written by Amber Glatt. Thompson told reporters that the missing persons case on Glatt is closed but the incident remains under investigation.

There’s no word yet as to if or when Glatt will return to Valley City. Her face book profile lists her as a student at Valley City State University originally from Chesapeake, Virginia.
