CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–There were plenty of former and future VCSU Vikings active in the 2012 North Dakota Shrine Bowl, played this past Saturday in Fargo.

Seven future Viking players competed in the games, while four former Vikings coached in the games.

Two wide receivers made big contributions in a win by 11-man west 22-13.  Alex Cundiff of Williston caught the game-winning touchdown, while Seth Leupp of Stanley added a catch that set up another score.

Joining Cundiff and Leupp as future Vikings playing in the game were fullback Matt Bowers of Bottineau and offensive lineman Lex Tande of Stanley on 11-man west, and wide receiver Ty Smith, linebacker Ethan Preston, both of Maple Valley-Enderlin, and wide receiver Nick Olson of Karlstad, MN.

Trevor Knutson of Maddock was on the defensive line for 9-man west.

One former Viking was a head coach of a team.  Bryan Haugen, who led North Star to the 9-man title game a year ago, was the head coach of 9-man west.  Jason Klusmann, also a former Viking and the head coach of South Border, joined Haugen as his assistant.

Two other former Viking players were involved in the 11-man game, with Loy Ham of Beulah an assistant for West, and Greg Dobitz of Oakes an assistant for East.
