(NewsDakota.com) After a wild week about the future of the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team’s 2012 postseason status that started with an official word to end the year with no playoffs, to rumors that the postseason was salvageable; the word came down officially on Sunday night that the team will be a part of the Section 2 tournament in Wishek after all set for next week.

Post 36 head coach Lucas Patzlaff had declared back on July 11 that the team was dropping two scheduled games during the week of the 11th, and their last game would be Monday the 16th at LaMoure; afterwards the season would end due to a conflict of schedules with the Babe Ruth district tournament in Steele to be played during the same week as the Section 2 tournament.

Some Legion observers started to question later that evening as to if there was a conflict; and it was confirmed later in the week that there were no issues. Regardless, both Post 36 games during the week of the 11th were not played. Had Post 36 not played their postseason games, they would have been fined and either put on probation or suspended for all of next season.

Oakes Babe Ruth coach Greg Dobitz along with Patzlaff confirmed to NewsDakota.com on Sunday evening that the postseason for Post 36 was back on.
