(NewsDakota.com) After a week in which the future of the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team’s postseason was in limbo, Post 36 rallied from a 2-0 deficit Monday evening and enters the Section 2 tournament next week at 6-6 after a 3-2 victory at Townsend Field.
Post 19 (7-4 Section 2) had a run in each the first and second innings, before Post 36 put all three of their runs across the plate in the third inning on four hits. Simon Maddock picked up the victory, going all seven innings; limiting LaMoure to just three hits, while striking out seven.
“It was a huge win for us tonight.” said Oakes head coach Lucas Patzlaff. “Simon has just been amazing all season long. We had a couple of calls go against us tonight, but out team didn’t let that affect them, and it feels great going into the tournament with a win.
Zach Stemen took the loss for Post 19, also going all seven innings, allowing five hits, while striking out five.
Post 36 has the next week and a day off, and will next play on Wednesday July 25 in Wishek in Round 1 of the Section 2 tournament. LaMoure’s final Section 2 regular season game is Friday at home versus Ellendale with coverage on Q101.1 FM and NewsDakota.com starting at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
