(NewsDakota.com) The City of Oakes is planning to make some changes to the way it picks up and deals with the garbage and recycling processes with a tentative date of September 1.
Mayor Monty Zimmer says the city is moving away from Waste Management, the company which currently handles garbage and recycling duties in town, and is going with a plan to have it done by the city. Garbage will be collected and taken to Gwinner, while recycling will also be handled by the city.
The changes, which are scheduled to be implemented by the first of September will feature a new route, and Zimmer says the process should become more efficient and save the city some money in the process.
More details are still to be worked out in a meeting set for Wednesday, including if the new plan will alter on which days residences and businesses see their garbage picked up. Maps of the new route will be made available once a final plan is put together.
