(NewsDakota.com)- A heavyweight fight cliche is needed to describe the back and forth nature of last nights Legion game between Jamestown and Bismarck. The two squads traded figurative punches at each other through the 10-inning marathon, before the Governors walked off with a 9-8 win.
Bismarck jumped ahead 2-0, but Jamestown responded to tie the game at 2. After another two-run inning by the Governors, Jamestown picked up two more runs to even the score again.
In the sixth inning with the score tied and two-out, Jake Stilwell came up with runners at the corners. He got out front of an off-speed pitch but was able to dump it into right field where it skipped by the RF to score two. The throw coming back to the infield sailed over everyone’s head into the Bismarck dugout allowing Stilwell to score from third.
Joey Gebhardt came back in to start the 7th inning on the mound, but the first two batters reached giving way to Stilwell to try to get out of a jam. Two pitchers later a double play ball allowed a run to score, but wiped the bases clean and Jamestown holding to a two-run lead.
The game looked like it was going to be over when a weak ground ball skipped off the heal of Brady Anderson’s glove at third base to keep the inning alive. Bismarck would eventually tie the game.
In extra innings, the teams traded runs in the 9th before Bismarck broke the tie for good in the 10th. The Governors came away with a 9-8 win.
They also took the second game, a little easier this time, with a 13-1 win.
Jamestown is back in action tonight at Jack Brown Stadium against Coon Rapids (MN). The game is scheduled for a 7:30 estimated first pitch, but they will take the field following the conclusion on Williston and Coon Rapids.
The game will broadcast on KXGT Sunny 98.3 tonight. Pregame show 15 minutes before first pitch.
