CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–Valley City Post 60 locked up the third seed in the upcoming Section 1 American Legion baseball tournament with a 14-4 league win over Harwood Thursday night in Valley City.

Valley City finishes behind Wahepton and Kindred, but works ahead of five other teams in the section, which will hold it’s tournament in Lidgerwood starting Tuesday.

A seven-run fourth inning pushed Post 60 to the win.  Harwood plated four in the top of the fifth, but Valley City responded with three in the bottom of the inning to end the game early.

Jaden Keys earned the win, tossing four innings, allowing two hits while striking out four.  Chase Carpenter entered the game in relief and allowed four runs on three hits.

Ben Sorenson was 4-4 at the plate, driving in two runs.  Josh Gilbertson was 3-3 with two RBI.  Carpenter, Brett Stearns, and Andrew Glaser each had two hits.

Harwood took the non-counter nightcap 8-0 in a game where Valley City was no-hit.  Stearns took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits.  Olstad, Spencer Meyer, and Josh Magnuson all threw an inning of relief.

Post 60 will play their first game of the sectional tournament at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
