CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team continues it’s post-season today after three rounds of the Section 6 Babe Ruth baseball tournament in Steele.
Valley City defeated Linton 6-4 in the opening round, then took a shut-out loss to Oakes 6-0 in the quarterfinals. They battled back with a 19-2 win over Edgeley in the loser-out round.
Nate Rodriquez earned the win over Linton, working all seven innings. He allowed four runs on three hits, striking out eight while walking six. Jordan Magnuson and Alex Milender each went 2-3, with Magnuson driving in three runs and Milender scoring twice.
Top-seeded Oakes broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth, then added three more in the sixth to take the 6-0 win over Valley City in the quarterfinals. Valley City committed two errors in each inning of Oakes’ scoring derbies.
Jesse Johnson took the loss, working six innings and giving up just two earned runs while striking out. Magnuson and Milender each had a hit, against Oakes, a team that remains undefeated in league play.
Valley City bounced back by scoring 19 runs in five innings against Edgeley. Jacob Miller threw five innings for the win, striking out five.
Magnuson continued a fine tournament, finishing the game 4-4 with three RBI and two runs. Miller, Milender, and Johnson each had two hits.
Valley City meets LaMoure today in loser-out play at 3:00 p.m.
