(NewsDakota.com)- A pair of hard fought games in the State Class A Legion Tournament didn’t go Jamestown’s way. They opened the second day of competition dropping a 5-1 decision to Fargo.

Post 14 was then forced to play a loser-out game against Minot. A walk-off double in the 9th ended Jamestown’s season, 3-2.

Jamestown baseball has had a lot of success against Minot in 2012, winning all six regular season games (high school and legion combined) with the exception of a WDA playoff loss.

Riley Schaffer drew the assignment on the mound was pretty much in control most of the day. He flirted with disaster on a few occasions, but was bailed out by flashes of leather.

Kasey Gengler made a highlight reel catch tracking down a long fly ball to dead center. He dove toward the fence on the run and then was able to double-up the runner at first.

Schaffer entered the 9th with a one run lead. He hit the first batter and after a sacrifice bunt the game was over in three pitches. A pair of line drives over the head of Ben Walz in left yielded two run and a walk-off win for Minot.

Minot moves on to face the loser of tomorrow’s first game, Grand Forks and West Fargo at 5pm.
