(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School volleyball team started their 2012 District 1 season off on a very good start, and ended their first week of the season with a 2-1 record after sweeping the Hankinson Pirates three games to none on Thursday night in Oakes.

Oakes won by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16 to take down the Pirates. Head coach Kathy Warren says her girls have been able to find some confidence the last couple of games after having quite a jolt against Kindred to start the season.

The Tornadoes will have a bit of time off before their next contest, which is set for Thursday September 6 at Lisbon. Coverage with Bruce Junker can be heard on KDDR AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com
