CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner tennis team pushed through for their first two wins of the season, knocking off Wahpeton 6-3 Saturday afternoon, then edging Dickinson 3-2 in a non-league match.

In the win over Wahpeton, a sweep of the doubles contests were the key after a split of the singles matches.  Ricky Paulson, Wyatt Reinhart, and Brandon Miller won their singles contests.  Paulson then teamed with Dusint Miller, Rienhart and Miller teamed together, and Dalton Ondracek and Iain Horner teams for the doubles victories.

Head coach Matt Nielson explained how key the win was for Valley City.  “With still missing two out of our top five, the Wahpeton win was huge for us.  This will guranatee that we will at least play at home versus Wahpeton in the play-in match for the final regional seed.  If we win one more match, we could possibly be out of the dreaded play-in match,” said Nielson.

Doubles were the key to the win over Dickinson, with Dusint Miller and Paulson teaming for a win, and Reinhart and Brandon Miller teaming for another.  Iain Horner posted the lone singles win, as Valley City defaulted at #3 singles.
