N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The name of a 69-year-old Casselton man who died Saturday in Casselton after being struck by a train has been released by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Eugene Kaatz was walking on the tracks at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday all while the railroad crossing arms were down, with the red lights and warning bell active as well.
Kaatz tried to make it across the tracks after the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train engineer blew the train’s whistle to warn the pedestrian, but it was too late and Kaatz was struck by the train.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP.
