(NewsDakota.com)- The winning streak for consecutive sets came to an end, but they streak that really matters rolled onto another day. The Blue Jay volleyball team took down Dickinson in four sets (26-24, 16-25, 25-11, 25-23) Tuesday night at Jerry Meyer Arena.
Neither team was able to find their footing in the first part of the opening set. The first 18 points seemed to be traded back and forth, with the only two point lead for either team was 2-0 Dickinson in the early moments.
Following the back and forth nature of the opening sequence, the Jays and Midgets traded runs to close out the first set. Each team went on two decent sized runs before Jamestown closed it out, 26-24. Julina Niemeier’s ace that rolled off the top of the net and in, closed the set.
In the second set, Jamestown couldn’t seem to do anything right. Unforced error after unforced error, the only reason the second set ended up being as close as it was because of a large amount of Dickinson service errors. The Midgets took the second set 25-16.
A whole different Blue Jay team took the floor in the third and steam rolled the Midgets, 25-11. In the final set, Dickinson appeared beaten with the Jays leading 18-7, however they would rally behind the strong play of Ali Moody and Alex Grove to tie the 4th set at 23. Jamestown buried the final two points to win 25-23.
Addie Eamon lead the way with 15 kills and Josie Hegerle paced the offense with 33 assists.
Jamestown is in control of their own destiny to win the West Region. They need to win out with games against Bismarck High, Century and Mandan, however they need to beat Century in four games or less to avoid a points scored tie-breaker.
To lock up the No. 2-seed, Jamestown will need to win two of their next three.
Jamestown hosts BHS on Tuesday at Meyer Arena, the game will broadcast on KQDJ-AM 1400. We will also broadcast next Thursday’s (10/25) with Bismarck Century.
