CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Two former Barnes County Highway Department maintenance workers received a 6-month deferred sentenced, probation and were ordered to pay court fees stemming from a theft incident on a farmstead east of Valley City.

Barnes County State’s Attorney Lee Grossman said David John Majerus of Kathryn entered a plea of guilty on a class “B” misdemeanor charge of theft and criminal trespass. Grossman said Richard W Lee of Valley City entered a plea of guilty on a class “B” misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.

Grossman said the two were caught on camera entering a farmstead in a Barnes County Highway Department vehicle during the day while employed on September 26.

Barnes County Highway Department Superintendent Kerry Johnson said Majerus and Lee were dismissed from their jobs on September 27.

Southeast District Judge Jay Schmitz ordered Majerus and Lee to pay $250 apiece in court fees after handing down a deferred 6-month sentence and probation on October 16.
