(NewsDakota.com)- The 11th-ranked Jimmie women’s basketball team will take the floor tomorrow night at the Civic Center as they begin their journey back to Sioux City. Last season, they set the record for most wins in a season and won a game in the NAIA National Tournament before getting bounced by the eventual champion.
Jamestown College will take the floor Friday night against the University of Brandon and on Saturday against Winnipeg. Head Coach Greg Ulland, in his third season, said his girls are ready to get back to work and put last years disappointing finish behind them.
The Jimmies are highly-ranked and deservedly so after a great season and a roster than returns almost all the pieces from 2011-12.
They lose only one player from last years team to graduation, Kellie Schuneman and one player to a potentially season ending injury, Casey Geffre. But they will bring back most of the starting line-up along with All-Americans Hannah Steele and Bridget Schuneman.
Amber Ramlo, the Jamestown native, was an all-AII selection a year ago and will be back for her final year. Junior guards Carly Jensen and Morgan Mathison will be counted on for bigger roles.
Not many new names on the roster, but North Dakota transfer Chelsey Frydenlund will see a large number of minutes on the floor.
Looming on the schedule in early November is a trip to play the the three-time defending national champion Northwestern College Red Raiders, the team that ended 2012 for the Jimmies back in March.
The first broadcasts of Jimmie basketball will be November 2nd and 3rd from Iowa when the Jimmie men and women make the trek south. You can catch the Jimmies all season long on KQDJ 1400.
