N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The opening night of the District 5 volleyball tournament at Ellendale High School proved to be a successful one for two different kinds of Rebels — the Edgeley-Kulm Rebels and the Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal Rebels.
MATCH 1
Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening match of the night, E-K needed five sets to put away Litchville-Marion-Montpelier (25-18, 25-12, 13-25, 23-25, 15-5).
The black and gold were led by 5-foot-7 senior Ashley Boom, who tallied 19 kills, 6 blocks and 4 aces. Senior Hallie Anderson added 25 assists in the victory.
For L-M-M, junior Tanys Ulmer had 7 kills and 4 aces. Senior Leah Bruse contributed 14 assists.
MATCH 2
In Match 2, P-B-K squeaked by 25-22 in the first set, but dominated thereafter on the way to a 3-0 win over the Barnes County North Bison (25-22, 25-11, 25-14).
For the Rebels, senior Amanda Beckley had 6 kills and senior Callie Neys had 12 digs.
For the Bison, Hannah Wilson had 5 kills and Jayda Haugen led the team with 15 assists.
DAY 2
With the wins, E-K and P-B-K advance to matches tonight. E-K will face off against Ellendale at 6 p.m. in the opening match of the evening, followed by P-B-K against LaMoure in the second match of the evening 25 minutes after the conclusion of E-K vs. Ellendale.
L-M-M and BCN will next play Monday in the final day of the tournament.
L-M-M plays the loser of tonight’s P-B-K vs. LaMoure match and BCN plays the loser of tonight’s E-K vs. Ellendale match.
