CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner volleyball team is headed to the EDC Tournament for the first time since 2008.
Valley City defeated Devils Lake in four sets Friday night during an EDC play-in match at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Devils Lake won the first set 25-20, but Valley City rallied back to win the match 20-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-13.
Clarissa Olson and Jessica Denholm led the Hi-Liners with 11 kills each, and Denholm finished the match off in style.
Dierra Diegel added seven kills, Madison Taylor had five kills, and freshman middle Brenna Dieterle gave the Hi-Liners a big boost off the bench with five kills and a block point.
Valley City advances to play No. 2 seed Grand Forks Red River in the first round of the EDC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The match will be played at 7 p.m. in Grand Forks. Red River defeated Valley City in four sets just over a week ago in Valley City.
Semifinals and consolation semifinals are Friday, Nov. 9 at Fargo Davies High School. State qualifying matches and the EDC championship are Saturday at Fargo Davies.
