CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State basketball teams both came away with 1-1 records following a tough road trip to start the season this past weekend.
The VCSU men and women split doubleheaders Friday and Saturday night at Northwestern College and Dordt College in Iowa.
On Friday, the men’s team rallied from a 38-28 deficit at the half to knock off No. 7 Northwestern by a score of 76-70 in their season opener. On Saturday, the Viking men fell behind 46-20 to No. 3 Dordt College and could not recover, losing 83-59.
The Viking men are right back at it Tuesday night with their home opener against Minnesota-Crookston. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
The Valley City State women also went 1-1 on their season-opening weekend. On Friday, The Vikings hung tight with the defending national champion and No. 2 team in the country before falling by a final score of 67-64 to Northwestern.
VCSU bounced back on Saturday to earn a 71-63 victory over Dordt College. The Viking women are off until Friday night when they host Minnesota State University-Moorhead for their home opener, 7 p.m. at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
