CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liner wrestling team won its second EDC dual of the week on Thursday, winning 11 out of 14 matches in a 58-18 romp over Fargo North.
Valley City lost just three matches all night, and one of those came by forfeit. The Hi-Liners came up with five wins by pin, including Jake Ashline who pinned Esham Moses at 126 pounds in a match that head coach Aaron Larson said set the tone for the rest of the team.
Valley City also had two major decisions, a technical fall, a decision and two wins by forfeit. The Hi-Liners improve to 2-2 in EDC duals. Fargo North drops to 0-3.
Zach Doty’s major decision at 182 pounds improves his individual record this season to 13-0. Shane Undem improved to 12-2 and Reed Beckman moved to 11-2. Those three are all ranked in the latest Class A Coaches’ Poll released this week. Beckman is No. 2 at 145 pounds, Undem is No. 5 at 160 pounds, and Doty is No. 2 at 170 pounds. Steven Horner, with a 7-3 record, is No. 4 at 285 pounds.
As a team, Valley City is rated No. 5 in the EDC and No. 8 in the state.
A busy week for Valley City wraps up Saturday when they host the annual Hi-Liner Christmas Tournament. Valley City will host area teams Aberdeen Central, Central Cass, Fargo Davies, Fargo North, Kindred, Larimore, Lisbon, Wahpeton and Grafton for the tournament.
