CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Maple Valley won its fourth straight Barnes County Tournament title Saturday, rallying past Valley City in the final minute for a 47-46 victory.

Jordan Haseleu hit a 3 from the top of the key with 16 seconds left for the game-winning shot, capping off a 5-0 run to end the game.

Valley City had a look on the other end, but Chase Carpenter’s final shot from the left block fell off the front of the rim, clinching another title for the Raiders.

It’s the third straight year Maple Valley beat Valley City in the title game, but for awhile it looked like the Hi-Liners were finally going to break through.

After going back and forth the entire game, Valley City created some separation when Tayler Lentz’ bucket spurred a 5-1 run for a 46-42 lead with 1:42 remaining. Haseleu sliced to the hoop for a layup to cut it two points, and then Maple Valley got it back to set up Haseleu’s final heroics.

Chase Carpenter had a double-double to lead Valley City with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Point guard Mason Denhom finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and three steals in a great all-around effort for the Hi-Liners.

Maple Valley was led by Haseleu with 20 points, including five 3-pointers. James Richman had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and also finished with two dunks in the game.

Maple Valley improves to 5-1 on the season. Valley City drops to 2-2.

In other action Saturday, Brady Thielges, Anthony Olson and Jared Meiklejohn combined to score 44 points for LaMoure as they beat Milnor 61-51 for third place. Wyatt Mund had 15 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for Milnor.
