(NewsDakota.com) The return for Oakes High School’s boys basketball team into District 1 play did not go the way the team, nor their head coach Brandon Bata wanted to see it start up again.

Lead by solid performances by Britton Bussman and Wyatt Mund, the Milnor Bison improved their District 1 record to a perfect 3-0, and rolled over Oakes on Friday night by a final score of 74-41.

The Bison, who had not played since December 21, seemed unfazed by the amount of time off, leading 25-8 after the first quarter and never looked back. Oakes did not hit 25 points until three minutes left in the third quarter.

Milnor (5-4 1-0 District 1) had everyone but one player score point; lead by Bussman with 25 points. Oakes was lead in scoring by Stephen Quandt who finished with 14 points. Ethan Zetocha finished with 13 points in the defeat.

With the loss, the Tornadoes are now 0-3 in District 1 and fall to 1-7 overall. Next up is a non-district game at home on Saturday against Pingree-Buchanan/Kensel. The Tornadoes will return to District 1 play on Thursday night, January 10 when they host North Sargent. Coverage Thursday night will start around 7:15 with tip set for roughly 7:30 p.m. on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
