N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A North Dakota State Representative from Grand Forks has introduced a bill to raise tobacco taxes, which would amount to about 56 cents per pack.

North Dakota retailers and petroleum marketers say they will oppose that tax hike. Mike Rud represents both trade associations and says they worry that these kind of tax increases will lead to black market cigarettes – especially in the Oil Patch.

Tobacco opponents, however, have long maintained that increasing the price on cigarettes will discourage young people from starting the habit.
