(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team was as chilly in the first half shooting the ball in the first half of their game on Thursday night in Forman as the cold temperatures outside. However, in the second half, the Tornadoes quickly warmed up and drove back home through the frigid conditions with a solid 64-48 victory against the Sargent Central Cadets.
Oakes and Sargent Central traded barbs in the first eight minutes with a high scoring finish of 16-14 after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, things got a little rough on both sides of the ball, however the Tornadoes still held an advantage at 30-24.
The third quarter started and finished with the Tornadoes swirling all over the Cadets, outscoring them 21-9, and never looked back from that point.
Oakes (8-5 3-1 District 1) was lead in scoring by Nicole Warren with 22. Quinn Vculek finished with 16 points. Sargent Central (5-7 1-5) had 21 points from Hannah Schlecht.
The Tornadoes have the weekend off, and will next suit up at home on Tuesday night versus Enderlin.
